What is a Career Center?

The Career Center is a place where job seekers can connect with businesses through a network of coordinated services.

1. Core Services: Basic information on services, resume assistance, job referrals, resource room (including phone, fax, and copy machine use) orientation and partner agency referrals.  Core services also include all services provided in follow-up after a customer has obtained employment.
2. Intensive Services:  Individual Employment Planning, Career Counseling, Assessment and Interest Inventory Testing, Prevocational Skill Training, and Case Management.
3. Training Services:  Funding for schooling or training after a determination of need in Intensive Services, On-the-Job training (OJT), and Subsidized Employment.
4. Business Services: Can assist businesses with labor market information, layoff or business closure, job fairs, employee recruitment, provide space for interviews, hiring assessments and job training grants such as on-the-job training, incumbent worker training and customized training.

Is there a fee to use the Career Center resources?
No, there is no fee to use the Career Center resources. Our fax machine, copier, and other Resource Library materials are available at no cost to support the career search activities of our members.

Do I have to be unemployed to use the Career Centers?
No. The career centers are open to everyone. As a matter of fact, many of our customers are currently employed but use our services to explore other options.

Can you help me find a job?
Yes . We are here to assist you with your job search by offering workshops, materials, information, guidance, and resources. We have a Resource Library where you can use our computers to research job postings online, view our job listings, use the fax machine or copier, get access to industry and occupational information, use résumé, interviewing, and career resources and tools. There is always a staff person available to assist you if you have any questions.

Can you help me get my GED?
Yes. Our Project Learn Staff at our Maury County site can assist you with your GED preparation and refer you to an area GED testing site. They can also prep you for English for Speakers of Other Language. Call your local career center for information and locations of other Adult Education Programs. Do you offer career assessments? What is the cost?

Yes, our career center staff can assist you with a career assessment known as Career Scope, and it is free.

Why should I take the Career Scope?

Career Scope is a comprehensive career assessment test that will help you find out about your personal interests and aptitude then match those interests and aptitude with occupations. Career center staff can also provide you with information for occupations and careers you are researching such as education, earnings, outlook, and much more.

Am I eligible for re-training dollars?
Our career center staff can help you determine if you qualify for specialized funding. Training funds may be available to you if you meet eligibility criteria under the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and the Federal/State Financial Aid (Pell Grants, Scholarships and Stafford Loans). The staff of the Career Center is available to assist you in determining if you meet the requirements associated with these programs.

The State approved list of skills training is posted on the Tennessee Higher Education Commission website. Career Center staff is available to discuss any questions that you may have about programs found on this listing.
