What is Adult Basic Education?

Adult Basic Education (ABE) is class instruction for persons 18 and over who would like to obtain a General Education Diploma (GED) or enhance their reading, math, and language skills

Is there a charge for the classes?

Classes are free of charge and funded by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Do I need to take a test to enter classes?

Yes. The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is given to prospective students.

Can I fail the entrance test?

No. This test is given to place you into the appropriate level class.

Where do I sign up for the test?

The test is administered at Project Learn Educational Center located at Northway Plaza, behind Badcock Furniture Store. Call the Center for Registration/Orientation Schedule..

Do classes start immediately after I take the test?

Yes. .

What will I be learning in class?

You will learn English grammar, Math, Reading and Writing Skills. GED classes also include Science, Social Studies and Literature.

How long will I be in class before I get my GED?

That depends on your level when you begin and the effort you make to improve your level. Classes are self-paced, so the length of time varies with each individual.

Will I need a textbook?

No. All materials will be provided for you.

What is the Official GED Practice Test?

The Official GED Practice Test is designed to evaluate your readiness to take the full-length GED Tests. The Official Practice Test is administered at Project Learn Educational Center.  You must take this test before you can register for the GED Test. Your teacher will help you decide when you are ready to take the OPT (Official Practice Test). There is no fee for this test.
